Snap-D Trailer Set-Up Packs for Australian boat trailers matched to ATM ratings from 1600kg to 4500kg

Choosing the Right Trailer Set-Up Pack for Your Boat

June 14, 2026

Don't leave your trailer safety to guesswork. Matching your trailer to the right shackle bundle is the difference between a stress-free launch and a legal nightmare.

Look, we’ve all been there. It’s 5:30am at the boat ramp, the tide is perfect, and you’re fumbling with a rusty, seized screw-pin shackle that refuses to budge. Or worse, you drop the pin into the murky water and watch your morning’s fishing plans sink with it.

But which Snap-D shackle set suits my specific rig?

The golden rule? Choose based on your trailer's ATM rating.

The "Gospel" According to ATM

In Australia, your towing setup isn’t just about what "looks strong." It’s about what’s legal and compliant with VSB 1 (Vehicle Standards Bulletin). Everything hinges on your ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass), the total weight of your trailer and everything on it (boat, fuel, gear, and that esky full of ice and bait).

If your trailer is over 2.5T ATM, you’re legally required to run two safety chains and two shackles (one for each chain).

Every Snap-D shackle is physically stamped with its ATM rating, making it dead simple for you, and the boys in blue, to see you’re doing the right thing.

Note: These 17mm Bow Shackles are monsters! They weigh approx. 450 grams each and with a 17mm main pin size, you'll need to allow a 20mm connection point hole for the roll pin.

Standard light utes are generally not rated for this weight class and their connection points will not accommodate this shackle size. Ensure your tow vehicle (e.g., RAM 1500, Ford F-150 or Lariat, Chev Silverado etc.) is specifically rated for 4.5T ATM before purchase.

Why Every Aussie Boat Trailer Needs Snap-D

We didn't just make another shackle; we fixed the shackle. Here is why Snap-D is the fastest and most user-friendly kit on the market:

  • Push in. Half a turn. Job done. No more spinning threads for thirty seconds while the car behind you at the ramp gets impatient.
  • Captive Pin Design: The roll pin locks and retains the system. The pin stays in the shackle body. You can't lose it in the sand, mud, or water.
  • 304 Stainless Steel: Saltwater is the enemy of traditional galvanised shackles. Ours are made from tough 304 stainless steel: built to handle the harsh Aussie coast without seizing.

Important Vehicle Towing Considerations

Before towing, always ensure your vehicle is legally rated for the trailer you're pulling. Manufacturer towing capacities assume ideal conditions and there are several other factors to consider:

  • Payload Capacity: Don’t forget the payload limit, which includes the weight of passengers, equipment, and any cargo in the ute bed. Exceeding this can lead to unsafe driving conditions.
  • Braked vs. Unbraked Towing Capacity: The braked towing capacity (with trailer brakes) is always higher than the unbraked capacity. For heavy loads, always ensure your trailer has a braking system.
  • Safety and Legal Compliance: Make sure your towing setup complies with local road safety regulations, including having the proper hitch, brake controls, and licensing if required.

Don't Wait!

Our Value Packs are designed to get your rig sorted for less and save you more when they outlast their galvy opponent many times over.

Whether you’re heading north for the winter or just getting ready for the spring season, It's time to replace those old screw-pin shackles with something designed for modern boating.

Choose the Trailer Set-Up Pack that matches your trailer's ATM and enjoy faster hitching, better corrosion resistance and a towing setup that's built for Australian conditions.

Push in. Half a turn. Job done.
